Introduction
I’m James Watson, a translator and reviewer with 10 years’ experience working with technical documentation across mechanical engineering, automotive and IT.
Alongside language work, I build small tools and workflows for quality assurance, data handling, automation and technical problem-solving. Quietly Technical is where I document some of that work and the thinking behind it.

Small tools, repeatable workflows and practical automation that remove friction, reduce avoidable errors and make complicated work easier to manage.

Turning technical material into something another person can understand and use, whether that means documentation, explanation, troubleshooting or process design.
Things I’ve made
Feedback evidence system
I turned a large archive of professional correspondence into a structured, validated evidence register. The project involved classification, provenance tracking, source validation and careful handling of private client material.
Translation QA automation
I use regular expressions and lightweight automation to catch recurring formatting, consistency and language problems in technical translation work. The toolkit grew out of practical QA needs rather than being built as a standalone coding exercise.
YouTube playlist decluttering
I built scripts and data-processing workflows to make a repetitive media-management task easier to inspect, organise and maintain. It is one example of the small, practical tools I tend to build when an awkward manual process becomes worth fixing.
